MINT Lift Threads – A Rising Trend in Aesthetic Medicine
One of the biggest trends in aesthetic medicine in recent years has undoubtedly been thread lifting. Threads come in different materials, structures, and purposes. The choice of thread type and technique depends largely on the patient’s skin quality, desired results, and the specific threads available in the clinic.

Currently, there are four main types of threads available: polydioxanone (PDO), poly-L-lactic acid (PLLA), polycaprolactone (PLC), and a combination of PLLA and PLC (PLACL). All of these are fully absorbable over time and stimulate the skin’s natural production of collagen and elastin, triggering neocollagenesis. In addition to the material, threads are also categorized based on their structure and shape—mesothreads and MINT Lift threads.

Mesothreads

Mesothreads are primarily made from polydioxanone (PDO), a polymer material that has been widely used in surgery for over 30 years. The primary purpose of mesothreads is to stimulate collagen and elastin production over time.

The results of mesothreads are not immediate—instead, they develop gradually. The final outcome is visible within 2-4 months, which is also the average time it takes for mesothreads to dissolve. These hair-thin threads are inserted under the skin using a fine needle, creating a scaffolding structure that promotes skin renewal. The number and type of threads used are carefully selected based on the patient’s needs and treatment area.

Types of Mesothreads

Mononiit

Mono Threads

Mono threads are highly effective for facial rejuvenation and wrinkle reduction. The procedure allows you to resume your daily activities immediately, as there are no significant side effects. These biodegradable threads dissolve in 2-3 months.

Keerdniit

Twist Threads

Also known as spiral threads, these are an advanced version of mono threads. Their twisted shape provides greater tensile strength and stimulation, leading to increased collagen production. Because these threads are thicker and stronger, they deliver a more pronounced rejuvenating effect.

Twin/Twin keerdniit

Twin/Twin Twist Threads

Twin threads are paired mono twist threads that accelerate collagen stimulation for more noticeable results.

Twin twist (or tornado) threads are even thicker and stronger, providing an enhanced lifting effect.

Coq/Barbed niit

COG/Barbed Threads

These patented threads are designed to provide a strong and long-lasting lift by anchoring into the underlying tissue. At our clinic, we use MINT Lift threads, which feature pressed, rather than cut, barbs. This design ensures a secure and long-lasting result that is immediately visible and continues to improve over the next six months.

This procedure is ideal for instant skin lifting, offering a strong and fixed hold while also stimulating long-term collagen production. The combination of lifting threads with smaller mesothreads, dermal fillers, or botulinum toxin injections can further enhance results.

MINT Lift Threads

MINT Lift threads offer two key benefits: an immediate lifting and firming effect and a long-term anti-aging effect by stimulating collagen production. These threads are equipped with barbs or cogs (either pressed or cut) and are inserted into the subcutaneous tissue using a specialized cannula or needle. Depending on the design, they can be unidirectional or multidirectional, providing both an instant mechanical lift and long-term skin rejuvenation.

The procedure:

Before the procedure, vectors are carefully marked, and the treatment area is cleansed and anesthetized with an injectable anesthetic. Immediately after the placement of the threads, patients may experience a tight "windblown" sensation, as well as mild swelling, tenderness, or bruising, which subside over time.

During the procedure, the skin on the face and/or neck is lifted using specialized threads. These threads are made from PDO (polydioxanone), which dissolves within 3-6 months, stimulating natural collagen production. This makes the procedure highly valued—not only does it provide an immediate lifting effect, but it also stimulates collagen synthesis, ensuring long-lasting and natural results that can last 1-2 years.

One of the biggest advantages of thread lifting over invasive procedures is the lack of visible scars or incisions—the threads are inserted through a small needle entry point using a cannula.

Why MINT Lift Threads?

The design of MINT Lift threads plays a crucial role in determining the results. Cut (barbed) threads do not hold tissue as well as pressed (molded) threads, making them more suitable for younger patients needing subtle lifting. Pressed threads, however, anchor more securely into the subcutaneous fat layer, providing a stronger and more stable lift.

How Long Do Results Last?

Depending on skin quality and initial results, a PDO thread lift procedure can be repeated every 6-12 months to maintain and enhance the effect. Without additional treatments, the threads last until they fully dissolve—on average 8 months. However, the newly formed collagen remains in the skin for up to 2 years.

Just like with dermal fillers, there’s no sudden loss of results—instead, the effect fades gradually over time. Since aging is a continuous process, maintenance treatments can help extend and improve the lifting effect. No cosmetic treatment is permanent—because none of us are.
